2017 AeroFest

Congratulations to AeroFest organizer MARK ARMBRUST made a wonderful event this year!!

2017 AeroFest Report

The 2017 AeroFest was a great success. 39 registered pilots with over 75 aircraft. We saw everything from WWI biplanes to modern military jets. Pilots came from all over Miami, Broward and Palm Beach as well as Florida’s west coast. We also saw pilots from Tennessee and Virginia, even as far as El Salvador (Central America).

Pilots started arriving at the field early Friday morning. By the afternoon there were several motor homes parked at the field and flying was going all the time.

Saturday began bright and early. We could smell the bacon cooking and the planes being ready by 7:00 AM. As soon as the pilots were ready the flight line was opened everyone started having a good time. All through the day we conducted a raffle for a grand prize consisting of a ready to fly Extra 300S, including radio equipment, donated by Mike and Angie Grey from Skyshark Hobbies in Cape Coral. Leading up to the grand prize we raffled hats and t-shirts donated by various other vendors.

Pilots were treated to RC related products and gift certificates from various companies like RCScaleBuilder.com, B&E Graphics, Balsa USA, BatSafe, Castle Creations, ZAP Glue, Impulse RC, Just Model Props, Master Airscrew, Peak Models, Premier Pilots, Scorpion, Hobbico/Tactic, Aviation Art, Eagle Tree Systems, APC Propellers, RTL Fasteners, Tru-Turn, SIG Planes, and Hostetler Plans.

Late in the afternoon we proceeded to present some awards to recognize the models and pilots for their creations and flying abilities. Elsewhere in this newsletter there is a full spread of the pilots and planes honored.

The day ended and we felt great satisfaction for a job well done. Everyone in attendance had a great time. The public was treated to one of the best shows our club has ever put together. All-in-all this one goes in the books as a great success.

My gratitude goes to the individuals that gave their time to help before, during and after the event. I know I am going to leave someone out of my list so in advance my most sincere apologies; please know that I am very grateful for your help.

First and foremost are Mark Armbrust and Marvin Alvarez. Mark did a tremendous job being the Event Sponsorship Coordinator; he contacted over 100 vendors and received donations from a couple dozen. Marvin took care of pilot relations, awards preparations and running the flight line.
Also, Bob Knight helped with the design and preparation of the event flyers, as well as offering support when needed.

The kitchen is the most intense section of any event, our good friend Abraham Marquez ran it like clockwork. All the food was sold and everyone that passed through the kitchen was greeted with his usual happy face. Helping Abraham were Jimmy Giraldo, Bill Bishop, Daniel Latham and his father, and Luis Hernandez.

Parking entrance was handled by Alex Martinez, Luis Hernandez and Alex Chan. The set up and clean up was manned by Frank Cosio, Alex Chan and Jeff Johnson. Frank was there Friday for setup and all day Saturday for anything that was needed in a hurry. Want to give Alex a big thanks for taking care of trash disposal.

Thank you to all the pilots and helpers for your contribution to the success of AeroFest. Now it’s time to start preparing for the next one…
